Use of medications is a common concern when prescribing for the infant or the breastfeeding mother. However only medications absorbed into the mother's bloodstream can enter breastmilk. Many medications bind to her body’s proteins and therefore are held in the mother’s bloodstream and do not transfer to the breastmilk and the baby.
