Mastitis

Mastitis is inflammation in the breast, which may or may not be accompanied by infection. Redness, pain and heat may all be present. The mother might have fever of 101.3 degrees F or higher, chills and flu-like aching. There is no evidence of risk to healthy term infants to continue breastfeeding during this condition. For recurrent mastitis, consider a breastmilk culture and sensitivity testing.
